That Pepsi Advert
I'm sure you have seen it, right?
The Pepsi ad with Kendall Jenner in it.
Recently the ad was released and people had pretty strong opinions on it. Thee ad was surrounded with Kendall Jenner posing for a model shoot whilst what seemed to be a protest going on around her through the street. She then whips off her blonde wig and goes to join the march. She then hands a police officer a can of Pepsi and everything is fine. The ad ends with some cheesy inspirational messages surrounding yes a canned fizzy drink and suddenly you feel uplifted and inspired...Well that's what was meant to happen...I think
You see the problem was, was that a lot of people saw it as trying to make light on protests and make them seem fun, with a bit of Pepsi thrown in. So, here is what I thought:
I don't see the full problem of this advert, I don't really understand why it had to be removed. Like most adverts yes its incredibly cheesy and all happy happy. But what else can you really do to promote a drink, I mean an advert with just the can sat there saying Pepsi doesn't exactly excite a potential customer in trying the product but then saying that a protest for what seems like something to do with world peace circled around the canned fizzy drink? Look at perfume adverts, there's lots of them and the majority show either a man or woman being sexualised. That doesn't mean though that if you buy that perfume and put it on your going to suddenly turn into the person you saw parading around on screen just like in this advert, giving a canned drink isn't going to solve any problems the world has as it is portrayed in this advert so I think that's mostly what's wrong with it. Also Kendall is seen as some major goddess with everyone stopping in their tracks to take photos of her and seeming like she solved all their problems by handing over a Pepsi? I think the message was meant to be something like with a bit of Pepsi life's sweeter? It just wasn't carried out in the right way and people got the wrong message.
Yet again it was a major company using a famous person to try and promote their product and unfortunately when it failed as it did, the famous person ended up getting a lot of the blame and backlash, as did Kendall. I don't think people should blame her. She was just doing what she was told to do and what she was being paid to do. Its really whoever wrote the adverts fault as they didn't think of how people would react to it.
What do you think of this? I just wanted to give my opinion as I have been looking into it :)
